Locarno Festival on the new Swiss banknote
On the occasion of the release of the new 20-franc banknote, Thomas Jordan, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank (SNB), has handed the new note as a symbolic gesture to the Locarno Festival President Marco Solari, to the Ticino State Council President Manuele Bertoli and to the Locarno Mayor Alain Scherrer during the press conference organised today, the 17th of May, at the Palazzo Sopracenerina in Locarno. Among the authorities were also the State Councillors Christian Vitta and Paolo Beltraminelli.
The inspiration behind the 9th banknote series is „The many facets of Switzerland.“ The new 20-franc denomination showcases a Switzerland that embraces creativity. The place pictured on the back of the note is the Piazza Grande in Locarno, where the most important film festival of our country takes place. One can clearly recognise the giant screen, where films are screened during the evening. The Locarno Festival symbolises the Swiss artistic and cultural activity.
The Festival would like to dedicate this important recognition to its public. Marco Solari, the Locarno Festival President, has announced that on the first night of the Piazza Grande the ticket’s cost will be 20 francs, for all those who will pay with the new banknote.
