"No form of art goes beyond ordinary consciousness as film does, straight to our emotions, deep into the twilight room of the soul." Ingmar Bergman.
Inaugurated in 1946, the Locarno Festival is the premier cinematic event in Switzerland and one of the most celebrated internationally. Every year, for a week, it turns Locarno into a capital city of cinema and culture – one whose main square, the Piazza Grande, is dominated by an enormous screen. UBS takes particular pride in supporting the Locarno Festival, as its principal partner since 1981, and in other ways: since 2000, UBS has had the privilege of presenting the Prix du Public UBS to the film at the Festival voted best by the public. A category which, over the years, has included such hits as The lives of Others (2006) and I, Daniel Blake (2016).
To mark this year's 70th anniversary of the Locarno Festival, UBS has decided to give the Festival and the city of Locarno an installation. It will be sited in the picturesque Piazza Grande, where we invite you to come and have a look at it.
We look forward very much to welcoming you to the Locarno Festival, where we trust you will have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
