The Locarno Film Festival expresses solidarity with the filmmaker Jafar Panahi and his family, following the disturbing news of his arrest in Teheran.
Winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno in 1997 for Ayneh (The Mirror), a member of the official jury in 2002, a friend of the Festival, Panahi is above all one of the great auteurs of contemporary cinema. The Festival hopes that he will be restored to liberty as soon as possible, so that his voice will continue to be heard by audiences all over the world.
