August 9th was the final day of the highly successful and well-attended first edition of the Festival del film Locarno’s Industry Days.
The Industry Office of the Festival del film Locarno is delighted to report that distribution rights for two of the films in the Concorso internazionale have been acquired following the announcement of the selection for the 2010 edition.
This year the Festival del film Locarno will launch its first Industry Days, three days entirely devoted to film professionals, 7 - 9 August 2010, with a programme of screenings and sessions specially designed to meet the needs of delegates.
NOTHING PERSONAL (Int. Competition 2009) sold in North America and released in Germany.
Sham Moh (At the End of Daybreak), by Malaysian director HO Yuhang (a Malaysia/Hong Kong/South Corea coproduction), screened as a world premiere in the International Competition at the 62nd Locarno Festival, won two prizes at the prestigious Asian Film Awards on March 22nd in Hong Kong: Best Newcomer for actress NG Meng Hui and Best Supporting Actress for WAI Ying-Hong (Kara Hui).
Four winners at the Quartz (Swiss Film Prize) 2010 awards ceremony held on Saturday, March 6th in Luzern, had previously featured in the program at the 62nd Locarno Film Festival.
La Reine des pommes (The Queen of Hearts… and her Parisian Lovers) by Valérie Donzelli (France) had its national release on February 24th. This first feature distributed by Shellac, was screened as a world premiere at the 62nd Locarno Festival in the Filmmakers of the Present Competition.
The winner of the 2009 Golden Leopard, She, a Chinese by Xiaolu GUO, was released in the United Kingdom on February 26th (distribution: Optimum Releasing).
Once again, titles which premiered at Locarno last year have made good ground on the international distribution circuit, as a result of sales agreements reached during or just after the event itself, and thanks to the focused effort of the Festival’s Industry Office. Many films from Locarno have also been enjoying considerable success at festivals around the world.
