The third edition of Carte Blanche, one of the Festival del film Locarno’s initiatives for film industry professionals, will focus on films in post-production from Chile.

At the opening of Australab, the film market and professional Lab of the Valdivia International Film Festival in Chile, the Locarno Festival announced that the third edition of Carte Blanche will be dedicated to films from Chile.

Thanks to a partnership with CinemaChile and Australab, Carte Blanche will present five/six films in post-production. The producers of the selected films will participate at the Locarno Festival, where they will present their projects to film industry professionals. In order to facilitate post-production and sales, the works in progress will be screened to sales companies, buyers, festival programmers and film funding organisations who are attending Locarno during the Industry Days. A jury composed of film industry professionals will then award a cash prize of 10’000 CHF to the best film.

This initiative, inaugurated in 2011, is intended to showcase a selection of films in post-production. Every year Carte Blanche turns the spotlight onto a different country, in Asia, Africa, Latin America or south-east Europe; in 2011 it was Colombia and in 2012 Mexico. The initiative is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

The initiative completes the range of opportunities the Festival offers professionals in the sector: buyers (Industry Screenings), producers (Open Doors) and sales agents (Carte Blanche).

The Festival del film Locarno and Australab will launch the call for entries in the first half of 2013 and the selected films will be announced in July.

The 66th edition of the Festival del film Locarno will take place 7 - 17 August, 2013.
