Festival Tous Ecrans to officially partner Festival del film Locarno's StepIn.ch event
Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans will officially partner the StepIn.ch day – a professional forum at Festival del film Locarno dedicated to Swiss cinema and its future. This collaboration is in line with the closer links established between Locarno’s Industry Days and Geneva’s Film Festival over the last two years. The StepIn.ch programme aims to open up the debate on the distribution of Swiss films in Switzerland as well as abroad.
This year, Locarno’s Delegate of the Artistic Director and Head of International Nadia Dresti and Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans Executive and Artistic Director Emmanuel Cuénod will invite cinema operators, distributors, producers, buyers and institutional leaders to debate actual opportunities for Swiss-produced feature films to reach venues and audiences.
Indeed, among the Swiss works that reached the market in 2014 (31 fictions and 54 documentaries according to the latest statistics, minority co-productions not included), all were faced with greater competition from foreign productions and a major overall decrease in cinema attendance. What is the measurable impact of this situation on the circulation of Swiss works? Are our models of financing, producing and distributing Swiss films truly adapted to modern-day realities?
Saturday 6 August, a keynote speech by Bero Beyer, the Director of the renowned International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) will precede this roundtable discussion, led by Emmanuel Cuénod, which will be held on August 6, 2016.
